Single-column Chueh Vessel
with Animal Mask Decor
Late Shang Dynasty
(1766-1122 B.C.)
Overall height 18.7cm
Depth 9.8cm
The chueh is a vessel
for drinking wine. It
normally has two short
upright posts projecting
from the lip , for which
various different
explanations have been
proposed. The way the
posts on this example
join into one at the top
is a comparatively rare
form.
